judge-e.-white.pngHappy New Year!  As we embark on a new year, I look forward to the continued growth of our membership and to the wonderful events we are planning.  Despite the resurgence of COVID, I am reassured that with technology, we can continue to meet remotely, on a national and local level, through our Districts, Committees and webinars.  I also hope that despite the pandemic and difficulties faced around the world, we can nonetheless remain optimistic as we strive to improve access to justice and achieve diversity.

As I write this, the mid-year is still planned as an in-person event, March 10-12,  in Arlington, Virginia. Information on registration may be found on the NAWJ website in January.  We will keep you updated on the program and the status of the meeting. The programming includes a keynote speaker addressing climate change and its effect on women around the world, a discussion with Jennifer Klein, the Executive Director of the White House Gender Council, on efforts to improve the lives of women and children under the Biden administration. Other topics are in the offing so stay tuned.  There will be plenty of opportunity for networking at the opening reception and a dine around with friends Friday night.  NAWJ has arranged for the group rate to apply not only for March 10 and 11 but also for March 12 for those who want to visit the sights in Washington DC on Sunday March 13.

Committee rosters and the appointment of Chairs, Co-Chairs and Vice Chairs will be out shortly.  I am so excited about your enthusiastic response and willingness to join the various committees which promote NAWJ’s mission statement. Many of you asked to be included on more than one committee. This is a testament to your desire to not only work towards insuring access to justice but to foster diversity and inclusion in the justice system. I look forward to seeing the results of your hard work. By the way, when I say hard work, the work comes with the added benefit of lasting friendships with your NAWJ sisters.

I am looking forward to NAWJ’s continued success in 2022 and to being together both virtually and in person with you my NAWJ sisters.

Hon. Elizabeth A. White (ret.)
President, NAWJ
