NAWJ HOSTS COLOR OF JUSTICE PROGRAM IN SOUTH COUNTY DIVISION OF CALIFORNIA SUPERIOR COURTS

On April 14, 2017, the Honorable Patricia Garcia (pictured above far left) chaired the Color of Justice program in the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego’s South County Division for students from Southwest High School in San Diego.

The program included a panel discussion on law as a career called Preparing the Way and Making a Difference. Panelists included Carlos Valera, Deputy District Attorney, San Diego County District Attorney’s Office; and Andrea Mangarin, Deputy Public Defender,   Office of the Public Defender. Afterwards, students participated in a speed mentoring activity where they spent three minutes with each mentor (28).

Students were supported by Southwest High School teacher Joel Rodroguez. A special thank you to San Diego Superior Court Community Outreach & Education staffers Julie Myres, Amoreena Urbeck, Deanna King for coordinating this popular event. Assistant Dean of Admissions Jorge Garcia and the University of San Diego School of Law provided college and law school materials for student bags.
