Statement on the Earthquake in Morocco from NAWJ President Judge Toni E.  Clarke

The National Association of Women Judges is heartbroken by the devastation wreaked by the earthquake in Morocco.

Just a few short months ago, in May, many members of the NAWJ were in Marrakech, representing the United States at the International Association of Women Judges’ Biennial Conference. The women judges of Morocco who hosted the Conference showered us with the country’s legendary hospitality, and we were deeply impressed by the beauty of the country and the generosity of its people.

The NAWJ stands in solidarity with our cherished colleagues, the women judges of Morocco, and we extend our profound sympathies on the earthquake’s tragic human toll and the widespread destruction of property.

Many have asked how to donate to a relief fund. The Moroccan judges have asked that we donate through the Red Crescent Society. There is not yet a specific fund for the earthquake but you can specify Morocco in this link to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund.
