PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Members,

I hope you have had a fabulous start to your 2019.

From the day it was founded, NAWJ has been committed to diversity in our membership. Our organization welcomes women and men, judges and lawyers, law clerks, academics, students and friends. There is strength in numbers, and the more just-minded people we bring into NAWJ to support our mission of equal access to justice for all, the better results we will get. Please consider making a pledge today to bring in at least one member by March of this year.

NAWJ takes pride in its many accomplishments. NAWJ is the leading voice for women in the judiciary. NAWJ was at the forefront in the establishment and implementation of gender bias task forces in both federal and state courts. NAWJ greatly advanced the administration of justice in many areas including domestic violence, sexual harassment, and the treatment of women in the courts. NAWJ is respected as a leader in educating judges across the nation and internationally.

We are planning awesome programs for 2019. Starting in sunny San Diego, California, our board members will hold their midyear board and leadership meeting from April 24-25; they will also hold an executive committee meeting on the morning of April 27. Events open to all members include the April 25 evening reception, followed by a full day of educational programs on April 26. Please mark your calendars. Registration will open soon. A fabulous NAWJ Annual Conference will be held in Los Angeles, California, the City of Angels, October 15-19. Registration is open now.

Let's join hands and make NAWJ stronger than ever!

Tamila E. Ipema
Hon. Tamila Ebrahimi Ipema
Judge of California Superior Court, San Diego County

SPECIALLY DESIGNED NAWJ PINS FOR SALE
HURRY, JUST A FEW LEFT

Many of you may remember the beautiful jewelry ornament (pictured below) that was available for sale at NAWJ's 2013 Annual Conference in New Orleans. Conference Chair Judge Mary Becnel (Retired) designed the pin, and she recently learned from the jeweler who created them, Dominique Giordano, that pins are available. Ten percent of each sale is donated to NAWJ.

Members and District Directors, what is happening in your districts? Have you and/or your fellow district members sponsored an NAWJ program recently?
