Marika Athens is a Superior Court Judge in Anchorage, Alaska.  She was appointed to this position in 2025.  She primarily handles civil cases, but is assigned criminal cases when necessary.

Judge Athens was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska.  She attended Haverford College in Pennsylvania and then Duke University in North Carolina for law school.  She was excited to return to Alaska to clerk for Judge Beistline on the United States District Court in Anchorage, Alaska.

Prior to her appointment, Judge Athens held a variety of positions in state government. She was a prosecutor for the Municipality of Anchorage, the District Attorney’s Office in Anchorage, and the state-wide Cyber Crimes prosecutor with the Attorney General’s Office.  Following that, she was an assistant public advocate representing the best interests of children in state custody and a magistrate judge.
