Judge Jennifer A. Mabey was appointed to the Fourth District Court of Utah in December 2014 by Governor Gary Herbert. She served as the Presiding Judge for the Fourth District, which encompasses Wasatch, Utah, Juab and Millard for two consecutive terms from January, 2020 to January, 2024, and holds the distinction of being the first woman to serve as Presiding Judge in the Fourth District. Prior to her judicial appointment, Judge Mabey was a partner with Tesch Law Offices in Park City, Utah. Before joining Tesch, she had established her own firm after working with nationally-based firms Chapman and Cutler LLP and LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene and MacRae LLP. Her practice focused primarily on complex commercial/civil litigation, with experience in the areas of employment, domestic, construction/real estate, and municipal law. In addition to her litigation practice, Judge Mabey was a certified mediator. Judge Mabey received her J.D. degree from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in 2002.
Judge Mabey has received the Judicial Excellence Award, an honor bestowed by the Litigation Section of the Utah State Bar, each year since 2017. She is also the 2024 recipient of the Utah Judiciary Excellence Award, which is presented by the Utah Judicial Council to one judge per year to recognize outstanding contributions to the work of the judiciary. Judge Mabey serves on the Ethics Advisory Opinion Committee for the State of Utah, is the Utah State Court Liaison to the Judicial Division of the American Bar Association and was recently appointed as a District Director for the National Association of Women Judges. She is actively engaged in educational and mentoring opportunities, and currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University in the Criminal Justice Department. Judge Mabey also regularly speaks at continuing legal education events in Utah and through the ABA.
